Privacy Policy

At WendQ ("we", "us", "our"), we believe great travel starts with trust. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.

1. Who we are

WendQ is operated by WendQ, based in the United States. For any privacy questions, contact us at privacy@wendq.app.

2. Information we collect

We designed WendQ to work with minimal personal data. Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:

• Email address — only if you join our list, or create a lightweight account to save and share trips. Stored with our payment provider (Stripe) as a customer record, so we can reach you and honor your founding rate — $2.99/mo for your first 3 months, then $4.99/mo — if and when you choose to subscribe to WendQ+. We take no card and charge nothing when you join the list.
• Saved trips & preferences — your travel style, saved places, and built itineraries are stored in your own browser’s local storage, on your device. We don’t keep a copy on our servers.
• Suggestions & submissions — if you suggest a hidden gem or share a travel video link, we receive what you type (place, reason, link, optional email) to review it.
• Approximate location — only if you tap “Use my location” for Near me. Your coordinates are converted to a city name and immediately discarded; we keep only the city, exactly as if you had typed it. You can always type a town instead.
• Basic usage events — anonymous events (like “a trip was generated”) with no name or profile attached, used to understand what’s working.

You can browse hidden gems and build a trip without an account and without giving personal details.

3. How trips are generated

When you build a trip, your request (destination, days, travel style — never your email or identity) is processed by our itinerary service to write your plan. Itineraries are suggestions; always verify details like opening hours before you go — every stop includes a verify link for exactly this.

4. How we use your information

• To provide and personalise the app (e.g. tailoring trips to your chosen travel mode).
• To process subscriptions and payments.
• To improve our product and fix problems.
• To communicate with you about your account or important updates.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Sharing

We share data only with service providers who help us operate, and only what they need: Vercel (hosting), Stripe (email list & future payments), Anthropic (itinerary generation), Pexels/Unsplash (photography), BigDataCloud (turning coordinates into a city name, only when you use location), and Resend (sending our emails). We also run Vercel Analytics (cookieless page and event counts — no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal profile) and our own event log, which records which destinations are viewed, never who viewed them. Booking buttons open third-party sites (Booking.com, Google Flights, Google Maps, GetYourGuide, and car-rental comparison sites) in a new tab — we never handle your payment there. We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t run third-party ad trackers.

6. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these, contact privacy@wendq.app. You can also clear your saved trips and preferences at any time by clearing your browser storage.

7. Children

WendQ is intended for adults planning travel (including family travel). It is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

8. Data retention & security

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, then delete or anonymise it. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, though no method is 100% secure.

9. International users

We are US-based; if you use WendQ from outside the US, your information may be processed in the US and other countries. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and update the date above. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate.
